Mr. Newman developed Calm Birth based his 20 years of work with Tibetan meditation teachers and doctors, and on programs of the Harvard Medical School and the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He has offered more than 100 trainings in US hospitals. He has presented the Calm Birth method at the University of Michigan Medical School and Bastyr University. He is the author of Calm Birth; New Method for Conscious Childbirth and Calm Healing; Methods for a New Era of Medicine.

Christine Novak has 20 years experience as a labor and delivery nurse, birth doula, and childbirth educator. She brought the Calm Birth prenatal meditation program to New Jersey hospitals in 2007 and received the 2009 March of Dimes Best for Baby award for her work in advancing the use of Calm Birth in New Jersey. As owner of Passage to Parenthood, Ms Novak guides women to access and enhance their coping skills, advocate for themselves, and prepare mindfully for birth and parenting.

Changes in the medical paradigm have encouraged the development of new childbirth methods. Based on meditation science and mind/body medicine, the Calm Birth method offers women an empowering vision of their body and potential in childbirth. The practices of Calm Birth are a vital complement to medical birth and natural childbirth, and an opportunity for complete prenatal care in the 21st century.

Maternal-child health nurses and physicians, midwives, childbirth educators and mentors, doulas and those interested in the optimal function of the nervous, endocrine and immune systems during pregnancy, birth and beyond will discover the benefits of childbirth meditation by attending this program.

"Calm Birth is a sublime gift to all of us. It contains the blueprint for reconnecting with birth wisdom on all levels... doing the practices will transform the birth process and imprint a peaceful beginning in both mother and child. The positive impact of this on society can't be overestimated."

Christiane Northrup, M.D., author, Mother-Daughter Wisdom and Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom

"Calm Birth...based on the best principals of psychosomatic medicine...encourages and supports natural childbirth and helps to heal the side effects of medications and invasive procedures. An empowering alternative to the "medicalization of birth", the techniques liberate women to channel their innate wisdom into welcoming their newborn child in a truly life affirming way."

Thomas Verny, MD, DPsych, DHL, FRCPC, author,The Secret Life of Your Unborn Child andTomorrow's Baby; Founder and former president of the Association of Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Health.

"Calm Birth is the childbirth method that society and I have waited for. It's been a long time coming, a very long time.  I am a midwife and an educator, with a steady devotion to childbirth... Calm Birth does what is so deeply needed.  It heals the Earth by healing birth."

Jeannine Parvati Baker, LM, childbirth educator, author, Prenatal Yoga and Natural Childbirth and Conscious Conception
